Ingredients
  

Okra
  • 1 pound fresh okra sliced into 1/2 inch pieces
Batter
  • 1 cup cornmeal
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 cup buttermilk
Oil
  • 4 cups vegetable oil for frying

Method
 

Prepare the Okra
  1. Wash the okra and slice it into 1/2 inch pieces.
Make the Batter
  1. In a mixing bowl, combine cornmeal, flour, salt, black pepper, and paprika.
  2. Add buttermilk to the dry ingredients and mix until smooth.
Coat the Okra
  1. Dip the sliced okra into the batter, ensuring each piece is well coated.
Fry the Okra
  1. Heat the vegetable oil in a deep fryer to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Carefully add the coated okra to the hot oil in batches, frying until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes.
  3. Remove the fried okra with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
Serve
  1. Serve hot as a side dish or snack.
