Ingredients
  

Beans and Meat
  • 1 cup dried pinto beans soaked overnight
  • 4 slices bacon chopped
  • 1 cup ground beef optional
Vegetables and Spices
  • 1 medium onion chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
Liquids and Sweeteners
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 cup barbecue sauce your favorite brand
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar

Method
 

Prepare the Beans
  1. Drain and rinse the soaked pinto beans. Set aside.
Cook the Bacon
  1. In a large pot, cook the chopped bacon over medium heat until crispy. Remove and set aside, leaving the drippings in the pot.
Sauté Vegetables
  1. In the same pot, add the chopped onion and cook until translucent, about 5 minutes. Add minced garlic and cook for an additional minute.
Combine Ingredients
  1. Add the soaked beans, ground beef (if using), chili powder, cumin, smoked paprika, water, barbecue sauce, and brown sugar to the pot. Stir well.
Cook the Beans
  1. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce heat to low. Cover and simmer for about 60 minutes, or until the beans are tender.
Finish and Serve
  1. Stir in the cooked bacon before serving. Adjust seasoning if necessary. Serve warm.
