Ingredients
  

Beans
  • 2 cups dried navy beans soaked overnight
Sauce
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon salt to taste
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper to taste
Aromatics
  • 1 medium onion chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic minced

Method
 

Prepare the Beans
  1. Rinse the soaked navy beans and place them in a large pot. Cover with fresh water and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for about 1 hour until tender.
Make the Sauce
  1. In a separate bowl, mix together ketchup, water, brown sugar, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper.
Combine and Bake
  1. Preheat the oven to 300°F (150°C). Drain the beans and transfer them to a baking dish. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, then pour the sauce over the beans. Stir to combine.
  2. Cover the baking dish with foil and bake for 3 hours. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 30 minutes to thicken the sauce.

Notes

For a smoky flavor, you can add diced bacon or smoked sausage to the beans before baking.
