  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp salt

For the Frosting

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 23 tbsp milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Food coloring of your choice (optional)

Instructions

  • Prepare the Cake Batter:
    • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a heart-shaped cake pan.
    • In a bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
    • Cream the butter and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
    • Stir in vanilla extract, then alternate adding the dry ingredients and milk, starting and ending with dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
  • Bake the Cake:
    • Pour the batter into the prepared heart-shaped pan. Smooth the top.
    • Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
    • Cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  • Prepare the Frosting:
    • Beat butter until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar and mix well.
    • Add milk and vanilla, adjusting consistency as needed. Add food coloring, if desired.
  • Assemble the Cake:
    • Frost the cooled cake evenly. Decorate with sprinkles, edible glitter, or piping designs for a festive touch.

Notes

  • If you don’t have a heart-shaped pan, use a round and square pan to create a heart shape. Cut the round cake in half and place the halves against two adjacent sides of the square cake.
  • Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days or in the fridge for up to 5 days.
